Success Stories
This page is all about success! For our dogs, finding a loving home is the most important thing we can do for them. However, we are very discerning when it comes to placement and though not infallible, we pride ourselves on making perfect matches.
Here are a few of the successful matches, and how their new families feel about their furry best friends.

Luna

" I am the happy guardian of Luna, and she is fast becoming the love of my life. I feel very blessed to be her guardian. Chris and Gemma
(LHDR Staff) have both been incredible.
I am very thankful".

Winnie

"Winnie was rescued by Chris ( LHDR founder) as a scraggy little pup who shouldn't have survived.
Thanks to LHDR she's here 6 years later and a total diva!"

Rocky

I'm so happy to say that I am the proud mum of little Rocky the Chihuahua. He is a beautiful little happy boy who takes everything in his stride.
Considering I only got him yesterday he follows me everywhere, even sleeping in my bed last night. I love him already and for him to live out the rest of his life with me and my three other dogs which all get on really well. I am really excited to have him, and would like to say a massive thank you to Von and Chris (LHDR staff) for making this happen. You are both lovely ladies who I admire and thank you for the very hard work you do. I am sure Rocky will love it here."
Dottie

"I adopted Dottie last year. I am playing a part in The Crucible in November and she came with me to rehearsal yesterday. I don't think she found it reverting..."

Buddy

"After two months of seeing if he had been adopted yet, I decided to enquire and got in contact with Chris (LHDR founder).
Chris left out no details as Buddy needed a very specific home as he had aggressive tendencies. She wanted to make sure I was 100% aware of what I was getting myself into with little Buddy.
In fact, she was brutally honest, not sugar-coating Buddy's behaviours at all but I was certain that I needed a little Buddy in my life.
I worked a lot, but Chris considered that little Buddy didn't have any separation anxiety and there was the option for Buddy to come to work with me once he had settled - something none of the big-name rescues would have considered.
LHDR made sure that Buddy wasn't being unsettled and was understandably cautious about finding him the right home for him seeing as he had already had two failed homes due to his naughty behaviour.

Evie

We first met Evie many years ago (I was 8 or 9 at the time) on a bus in Cardiff with her foster mum Megan, my mum and Evie fell in love from the first sight!
She was our first dog and an instant family member from the word go!
My mum contacted the rescue and that is how we met Chris (LHDR founder), My mum always remembered how Chris came with the forms and to collect the adoption fee. She knew Evie was going to be treasured for the precious girl she was. She lived a long, happy holiday filled life.
With many Loving Homes friends visiting and lodging throughout her life.
She was from the start and to this day unit from Loving Homes to us. "

Harley & Ethan

"Had these two for over a year now, truly spoiled as you can see. Most of the time I only see the back of their heads sitting on my knee watching TV. They love it, they have a couch each. Wouldn't be without them now. "

Wally

"15 years old not but came to me from LHDR when he was 4. He's loved by everyone he meets and he has saved me a million times or more. My bestie buddy.
LHDR does amazing work and goes the extra mile for every dog. I love how thorough they are with their process, so the right people get the right dogs."

Cally and Rolo

'Cally and Rolo! my only true loves! Got Rolo Easter 2019, decided in 2024 that I'd like another dog because Rolo didn't need a walk everyday, and along came Cally! Rolo hates her. She tries to get him to like her but it doesn't work. Grumpy old man! I have just enough love for the both of them."

Kasor, Faith & Rosie

"All very much loved... none planned.
Rosie nearly 6 years ago, I tried to persuade my mum to get Rosie after seeing her picture. She wasn't for being persuaded as she didn't really have time for a dog.
Sooo... I had to go and meet her anyway just to make sure she wasn't a good match for me.
Rosie was painted as an absolute over the top spoiled brat, with an attitude problem.. and that's exactly what she was!
Kasor -I had no intention of getting another dog, especially a puppy! But after hearing the heart breaking story about 11 pups and only 2 surviving I had to go visit them. I swore I wouldn't take any home... until I met the two pups and then I just had to!
2 years on Kasor has grown into such an amazing pup. She is just so full of life and has been the easiest dog to train. She loves everyone.. except toddlers! She's scared of them and will run and hide!
Faith - After falling in love with Kasor, and of course her sister Astrid, but only being allowed to to take one, I rang David on video call to show him the pups and he took one glace at Faith and decided he needed her. After a few introductions to Rosie, Faith wasn't a fan and Rosie wasn't either!
Chris ( LHDR Founder) suggested fostering Faith and just seeing how it went in the home environment. Needless to say the quite like each other now.
All three are complete goofs who just needed love and a home and we wouldn't be without them.... most of the time haha!"

Pearl

" Pearl arrived with me back in 2022. this was not the dog I had been waiting for. A sweet young XL Bully was meant to be my new dog. Chris (LHDR founder) and the rescue worked hard at brining her to me, at the same time as some others travelling, but unfortunately, she wasn't released by the current owner.
I was kept informed, they travelled many miles for this and were devastated too.
Being a bit disappointed that it wasn't meant to be Chris asked me to foster a staffie.
Of course I said yes, I love to foster. Linda (LHDR Staff) kindly travelled miles to come and meet me. Pearl was gorgeous! She was so much fun and sassy!
It wasn't long before I couldn't see her re-homed.
I adopted Pearl. It wasn't all smooth sailing, it took a bit of time for me to see some issues. I felt able to talk to Chris and Linda. They had empathy, never made me feel bad and provided guidance where they could.
I thank them each year for helping me get Pearl and keep her. I can't imagine life without her."

Blue and Cleo

"I first contacted Loving Homes back in 2018 after seeing Blue on their website. After speaking to Chris, I arranged to go up to Orkney for a couple of days to meet him, even though Chris had said I’d probably travel home without him as 1, there would be very few people she would trust to take him, and 2, he’d likely snarl at me, and I wouldn’t want him. Fast forward a few months - and a few failed attempts to get there due to my car breaking down - and I finally set off to meet Blue.
Once again, the car broke down, just south of Inverness, and after waiting on breakdown and having to find my way to Inverness airport to pick up a hire car. I was finally on my way again, although I’d missed my ferry so slept in the car overnight and got the morning ferry. I was a bit worried it wouldn’t be enough time for Blue to be comfortable with me before taking him away with me, I was aware he was a ‘difficult’ dog and was supposed to be a sanctuary dog.
After getting to the rescue, Chris took me out with her when she took Blue to the paddock. I probably should’ve been a bit nervous given his history of severe fear aggression but I wasn’t and sat down on the grass while he was having a sniff around. After a few minutes he came over for a sniff, lay down, rolled over, and let me give him a wee belly rub! I could’ve cried at the trust he put in me given that he’d lost all faith in humans. He stayed with me overnight, and rarely left my side again over the next 7 years
Unfortunately, earlier this year it became apparent he may not be with us much longer, then around 7 months ago that became more obvious when he started to pass out regularly when trying to walk sadly, we had to have him pts as within a few weeks he couldn’t walk and we were having to carry him everywhere. He really was a special boy and stole my heart.
Fast forward again to around 5 months ago when we set off once again for Orkney, this time to meet wee Cleo, a pocket bully who I’d shared last year when she first went into rescue, never for a minute thinking she’d still be available 9 months later! Cleo really is a wee bundle of joy, with a bit of lunatic thrown in she’s a wee Velcro girl and always stuck to my side! She’s not been here long but making great progress (she’s dog reactive) and has settled in brilliantly.
I can’t fault Chris at the rescue. She goes above and beyond for the dogs…some of which other rescues wouldn’t entertain
First 5 pics are Blue (the dog so aggressive he shouldn’t be re-homed according to some), last 5 pics are Cleo (who thinks she’s a parrot).
